Do Grandparents Come to LOMC?YES! They come to share their time, energy, talents and passion with the youngest campers in 1st–3rd grade. Imagine being a youngster who feels very brave at home, expecting an exciting camp week: making new friends, learning skills, enjoying the pool, pond, hikes, crafts, playing games, making homemade ice cream. Then comes the first meal that doesn't taste like "home." This is MINISTRY for grandparents, (single or a couple) serving the needs of campers and staff AHEAD of their personal needs and having FUN! Sometimes, all that is needed is a "Listening Ear and Caring Heart" to help youngsters adjust to camp. Grandparents are Nurturing, Observant, Creative, Energetic, Flexible, Forgiving, have a Sense of Humor and are able to "Go with the Flow" when daily plans change. Since campers come from diverse backgrounds and developmental need levels, it is often a grandparent who encourages them to participate in group activities. Grandparents PARTNER with summer staff to Nurture Faith in our youth. When not with campers, grandparents can enjoy any part of the camp's 640 acres by fishing in Paul's Pond, hiking the woods and prairie, helping in the dining hall or relaxing in your room in Freedom Tree Village. Consider this: " You CAN make a difference in a camper's life" Please contact Linda Patterson, LOMC Grandparent Coordinator. llpat@grics.net
